Is a Kenya Safari Right for You? 5 Questions to Ask Yourself

Not everyone is meant for a Kenya safari. And that's completely okay.
Some travelers want the cheapest package. Others want to check "African safari" off their list and move on. Some prefer planning everything themselves. All valid approaches—just not ours.
So before you spend hours researching safari operators, let's figure out if Kenya—and specifically, the way we do safaris—is right for you.

Question 1: What Are You Really Looking For?
A) Maximum wildlife sightings Kenya delivers, but so do Tanzania, Botswana, and South Africa. Choose based on specific species and timing.
B) A complete African experience Wildlife + culture + landscapes + authentic connection. This is where Kenya excels. Astonishing diversity in one country—from the Samburu Special Five (wildlife you won't find in Tanzania) to UNESCO World Heritage Sites to the Indian Ocean coast.
C) A typical vacation If you want to relax and unplug, a beach resort might be better. Safari is active—early mornings, long drives, sensory overload in the best way.
If you chose B: Keep reading.
Question 2: How Do You Want Your Trip Planned?
A) DIY everything You love research and logistics puzzles. Honestly? You probably don't need us. Go for it!
B) Pre-packaged tour You want a tested itinerary at a good price. Large operators like G Adventures or Intrepid Travel are excellent for this.
C) Expert-designed, truly custom Someone who knows Kenya builds your itinerary from scratch based on YOUR priorities—not a modified version of everyone else's trip. You have the same guide from landing to departure.
If you chose C: This is exactly what we do. Every safari starts with a conversation about what matters to you.
Question 3: What's Your Timeline?
A) Traveling in 3-6 months Possible, but the best lodges book 6-12 months out. You'll need flexibility on dates and accommodations.
B) Planning 6-12 months ahead Perfect. Time to secure preferred lodges and plan thoughtfully.
C) Just dreaming (12+ months out) Excellent. This is when the best planning happens. You can be strategic about timing.

The reality: Custom planning takes time. If you need something next month, we probably can't create the experience you deserve.
Question 4: Let's Talk About Investment
Which statement resonates more?
A) "I need the absolute lowest price" We're not the cheapest option. If price is your primary concern, you should shop around—and that's completely valid.
B) "I want the best value for my investment" Value means getting an experience worth what you pay. Expert planning, quality accommodations, knowledgeable guides, personal attention.
The numbers: $800-1,200 per person per day (see our FAQ). Includes all in-country travel, all-inclusive lodging, park fees, specialized support, and personalization at every step of your journey.
You'll still pay for: International flights, travel insurance, tips, and personal extras.
Here's the truth: Some travelers choose safari operators like they choose flights—purely on price. Others choose like they choose doctors or wedding photographers—based on expertise, trust, and fit.
If you're in the second group, let's talk.
Question 5: What Does "Custom" Mean to You?
A) "I can pick from pre-designed options" Many operators call this "custom"—but it's really modifications of existing packages. Choose Route A or B, add a day here. It's still fundamentally someone else's trip.
B) "Someone builds my trip from scratch" True customization means starting with your dreams and a blank map. As I wrote, real customization means Anthony uses his 30 years of Kenya expertise to create something you couldn't design yourself—because you don't know what you don't know.
Example: When someone says they want to see elephants, we dig deeper. What's the story behind that? A childhood memory? A documentary that moved them? Conservation passion? Understanding your personal connection to what you want to experience shapes how we craft your journey—not what you'll see (elephants are wild and go where they go), but how we help you connect with those moments more meaningfully.
This is why every safari starts with a conversation.
So... Is Kenya Safari Right for You?

If you found yourself choosing mostly B and C answers, there's a good chance Kenya safari with Complete Safaris would be an incredible fit.
You're probably our kind of traveler if you:
Value experience over expense (while being smart with budget)
Want expertise, not just logistics coordination
Are curious about the "why" behind what you're seeing
Prefer depth over breadth
Want to feel taken care of
Are ready to invest in something transformative
You're probably NOT our kind of traveler if you:
Price is your primary decision factor
Prefer group tours to private experiences
Want to DIY as much as possible
Need everything planned in 2 months
Both are legitimate approaches. They're just different.
What Happens Next?
If you're thinking "Yes, this sounds like me":
Step 1: Read about why we're Kenya-only, what makes us different, and explore our FAQ.
Step 2: Schedule a consultation. It's a conversation, not a sales pitch. We'll talk about your dreams, share honestly about fit, and give you a realistic picture. No obligation.
The truth: I'd rather have a 30-minute conversation where we realize it's not a good fit than have you book with us and be disappointed.
When Anthony and I started Complete Safaris, we made a choice: do one thing exceptionally well rather than try to appeal to everyone. We create deeply personal Kenya safari experiences for travelers who value expertise, authenticity, and transformation.
If these five questions resonated—if you're thinking, "Yes, this is how I want to experience Kenya"—let's talk.
And if not? I hope this helped clarify what you ARE looking for.
